What Documents Are Needed to Apply For NSFAS?

The number of NSFAS desired students is increasing daily, but only a few are familiar with the requirements. Most of us are unaware of the eligibility criteria and the required documents for the NSFAS application. In my opinion, we should not apply for NSFAS without prior knowledge, so come with me to see the required documents for NSFAS in order to get a bursary.

Required Documents & Criteria

The majority of the people frequently ask if they deserve an NSFAS bursary, then why the government body does not approve their applications. All of us apply very carefully and mindfully after reviewing the eligibility criteria, but the applications are still declined. That is because we upload an incomplete bundle of documents.

For example, a common perception is that NSFAS requires an ID document and your latest result card, but people neglect the importance of a payslip, proof of residency, disability proof, or consent form. My discussion aims to inform you about all the NSFAS required documents so the department approves your application.

Required Documents List

  • An applicant is required to upload a certified copy of ID documents, which should not be older than 3 months.
    • An applicant must sign a consent form.
  • The SASSA financial program enrolled applicant must provide these documents:
    • You must provide a certified copy of your ID documents, which should not be older than 3 months.
    • You must have signed and completed a consent form.
  • The applicant, financially depending upon the parents or guardians, provides these documents:
    • You must submit the ID copies of your parents, guardians, or spouse, which should not be older than 3 months.
    • You must provide proof of income of your parents, guardians, or spouse, such as a payslip or appointment letter.
  • The applicants are financially self-sufficient or independently provide these documents:
    • You must upload proof of your income, such as a payslip or appointment letter.
    • You must provide 3 years of IRPS.
  • The applicants with a disability provide these documents:
    • You must have completed and signed Annexure A.
  • The orphan applicant should provide these documents:
    • You must have completed and signed the NSFAS Declaration Form.
    • If you have a Retrenchment letter or UIF documentation, upload them.
    • If you have the Death Certificate of a deceased parent, upload it.
    • If your parents are divorced, upload the divorce decree.

Note: The majority of applicants commit a common mistake that you should avoid, which is providing blurred pictures of their documents. First, upload a document in the relevant section, and second, you should provide a clear copy of your documents. If the details are blurred, your application will be declined, returned, or rejected based on the complexity of the problem.

How to Upload Documents on NSFAS?

Uploading documents is a bit complicated for applicants who have never applied for a bursary or financial aid online. Basically, the procedure of the application is divided into various steps, such as registration, login, accessing the dashboard, and then uploading documents. I have explained the entire procedure in detail; see below.

Step 1

You can apply through various platforms, but the most credible one is the NSFAS website. Go to the official NSFAS website and register your account. As the page is loaded, click the “Register” button, and it will take you to another page.

Here, you need to provide all the details, such as your name, ID number, qualification, or financial status. Fill out the form, and you will receive an OTP code on your cell phone or via email. Verify your account; now, you are registered to apply for NSFAS.

Step 2

Go to the main page of the NSFAS and click the “Login” button; provide your username and the password you created while registering. Double-check the password and username, then tap “Login.” If the provided information is accurate, your account will be logged in, and a front page will appear.

Step 3

Go to the dashboard and click the “Apply” button if you have not yet applied for the NSFAS. If you have already applied for financial aid, then click on “Upload outstanding supporting documents.” The instructions will lead you to which document is required to upload in a sequence.

Step 4

Click the upload button, and it will show a window. Go to the location of the documents and only select the required one. For example, if the required document is an ID copy, you should not upload your pay slip or proof of residency; otherwise, your application will be rejected.

Step 5

Upload your documents one by one, and once all the documents are uploaded, double-check the sections. In case a document is missing, you should not submit the application until you upload the missing one. Additionally, if the original documents are required, then you cannot upload a copy.

Step 6

Once you have uploaded all the documents, tap “Submit”. You should remember that if you submit an incomplete application, the NSFAS may reject or decline the plea. Therefore, you should always see whether the bundle of documents is uploaded.

Note: The majority of people take photos of their documents from their cell phone cameras. Basically, these cameras are not good for capturing the small details, that’s why they are used to capture pictures of people. It is not recommended to take pictures of your documents with a cell phone camera because it blurs the small details.

In case you do not have other options, you can use applications such as “PDF Scanner” or “Document Scanner.” These applications are designed to take pictures of documents in order to enhance the quality of the image and the prominence of small details. On the other hand, you should use high-quality cameras to take pictures of documents.

NSFAS has become a source of hope for all the financially deprived students who are unable to pay their fees due to orphanage, insufficient funding, or physical disability. These students can apply for the NSFAS aid through the online platform; all you need is to fill out the application form and upload the required documents. I have explained all the required documents above and an important note for applicants, so read the instructions and apply for NSFAS.
