NSFAS Allowance 2024 | Financial Support for Students
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme is designed for individuals who belong to a disadvantaged background. NSFAS bursary aims to increase the number of educated people in the country by providing them with quality education. Not all individuals can afford universities, college or institute fees, accommodation expenses, and living costs, so it provides them with a monthly allowance; let’s take a look at how much these students get from NSFAS.
NSFAS Allowance 2024
NSFAS provides multiple allowances to the students, including accommodation and travel allowance, material allowance, and living allowance. Students associated with the TVET institutes receive facilities and funds varying from the disabled and university students. Distance learning students can also apply for the NSFAS Bursary.
University Students Allowance
- Living Allowances: An enrolled student will receive R16,500 in 2024, of which R3,045 is for personal care and the rest of R13,455 for meals per year.
- Travel/Accommodation Allowance: If an enrolled student lives in a private accommodation in the metro area, he will receive R41,000, while if he is in the nonmetro area, then he will receive R50,000 per year.
- Travel/Accommodation Allowance: If an enrolled student lives in the institution-catered accommodation in the metro area, he will receive R66,500, while if he is living in other areas, then he will get R57,500 per year.
- If a student has accommodation, he will be ineligible for an accommodation allowance, but he can receive a transportation allowance of R7,875.
- Meal Allowance: An enrolled student will receive R5,460 per annum for purchasing academic books, materials, or learning tools.
TVET College Students Allowance
- Living Allowance: TVET College students will receive R10,000 per year as a living allowance.
- Travel/Accommodation Allowance: TVET College students will receive R60,000 in metro areas, while they will receive R51,000 if they travel in other areas.
- Disabled Students Allowance Living Allowance: An enrolled student with a disability will receive R20,000 per annum.
- Material Allowance: An enrolled student with a disability will receive R6,000 per annum as material allowance.
- The learning allowance is for university students, and others, such as TVET College students with disability, do not qualify for material or learning allowance.
- Assistive Devices Allowance: An enrolled student with a disability will receive R50,000 and R2,000 per year to repair assistive devices, such as an electric wheelchair.
Distance Learning Students Allowances
- Course Allowance: The students involved in distance learning will get a maximum of R5,460 per year.
- Personal Care Allowance: The value of personal care allowance is R3,045 per academic year.
